Damon Frugal Friday Every Day Except Tuesday round 2
Last night, my esteemed and steamed (or at least steamy) girlfriend took me out to Damon Frugal Friday Every Day Except Tuesday - the popular small plates, recession-friendly Craft spinoff - for my 26th birthday. As with the other time I went (the first week it opened, it should be noted…i.e. there was room for error), some dishes were great, some were just good, and nothing was particularly bad. It’s possible to have a very good meal here, and the fact that the cocktails are also all under $10 helps keep the price point down and allows for even more gluttony (a favorite pastime of mine). Highlights: boneless chicken wings with valdeon blue cheese and celery, guinea hen rillettes (part of the Bonano crime family), wild boar skewer with pickled watermelon rind Lowlights: the only really disappointing dish was the tempura fried duck gizzards with sriracha aioli, which had a nice iron-rich flavor but were hindered by their too-pliant tempura coating Cocktails were pretty ambitious: the spicy Green Mantis, with tequila, jalapeno syrup and lime, and the lady’s 19th Street Headache with aperol and prosecco both quenched thirst, pleased palates and got us nice and tipsy. All in all, a great meal made excellent by the addition of my lovely dining companion. Thanks, dear!
